Rare Books
Scope and Contents
The Rare Books Collection encompasses 352 linear feet and over 2,500 books from the early days of the history of molecular biology and genetics. Please see the CSHL Library catalog for the complete listing of rare books.
The Rare Books Collection can be searched using the CSHL Library's Advanced Search function. First, click on "Advanced Search" at the bottom of the box. Then, under the "location" dropdown menu, select "Special Collections: Rare Books Collection" to run your search in the Rare Books Collection only. Running a search with no terms entered and the correct location selected will display a list of all books in the Rare Books Collections.

Location and Access
The Rare Book Room is located on the second floor of the Carnegie building, which houses the CSHL Library. In order to look at materials, please contact an Archivist to make an appointment. Include in the message the title and author of specific books as well as preferred date and time for an appointment.
