Biographical / Historical
Lesley Russell is a member of the Center for Australian & New Zealand Studies (CANZ) Board as well as a Senior Fellow at CANZ and Visiting Fellow at the Center for American Progress. She received her BSc from the University of Tasmania, BA from the Australian National University and Ph.D. in biochemistry from the John Curtain School of Medical Research at Australian National University (ANU).
Between 1984-1991 she worked on Capitol Hill in the US Congress, she was on the staff of the Energy and Commerce Committee in the House of Representatives. She was a policy advisor to Australian the Australian Shadow Minister for Health and Manager of Opposition Business in the House, Julia Gillard. She is the Menzies Foundation Fellow at the Menzies Centre for Health Policy at the University of Sydney and ANU as well as a research associate of the U.S. Studies Centre at the University of Sydney and visiting professor in the Department of Health Policy at George Washington University. She has been awarded American Society for Microbiology Congressional Science Fellowship.
