Scope and Contents
Extensive collection consisting of over 2,000 offprints and reprints, mostly signed by James Watson (some annotated), some inscribed and signed by various scientific authors. Also included are galley proofs, and photocopies of research papers written by scientists, including James Watson, Sydney Brenner, Max Delbruck, Rosalind Franklin, Al Hershey, Linus Pauling and Max Perutz.
The material includes a number of papers by his students and colleagues at Harvard, including Mario Cappechi, Jerry Adams, David Apirion, Joan Argetsinger (Steitz), Gary Gussin, Kimiko Asano, Lionel V. Crawford, Raymond Gesteland, Alfred Goldberg, Nancy Hopkins, Peter B. Moore, Masayasu Nomura, John P. Richardson, and David Schlessinger. The papers include handwritten notation by Watson. It also contains numerous papers from the staff of CSHL, including Phillip Sharp, Benno Muller-Hill, Bruce Stillman, Winship Herr, Robert Pollack, and Douglas Hanahan.
The series is arranged chronologically by author. The series also includes several topical files (DNA, Tobacco Mosaic Virus, etc.) which are also arranged chronologically. Cross-references for material in these files have been included to aid researchers. Files related to manuscript submissions to EMBO and PNAS (1970-1989) are listed at the end of the inventory.
