The Reprints series is an extensive collection of reprints, offprints, and photocopies of scientific articles collected by Brenner from the 1940s to the 2000s.

The Reprints - Brenner subseries (SB/7/1) consists of papers authored or co-authored by Sydney Brenner. The subseries includes reprints, offprints, and photocopies, as well as one proof and one typescript. Some of the papers were originally owned by Brenner's co-workers Francis Crick and Leslie Barnett. Brenner's first paper was published in 1945 and the subseries concludes with his Nobel Prize speech, published in 2003. The arrangement of the subseries reflects the manner in which Brenner maintained his personal reprint collection. Each paper was assigned a number which generally corresponds with the order it was published, thus his first publication ("Vitamin A and Porphyrin-Like Fluorescence in the Livers of Pellagrins...") is labeled #1, his second published paper is labeled #2, and so on. Starting in the 1960s it appears as though the numbering system was occasionally revised (numbers are frequently crossed out and replaced), which results in some confusion over what number was ultimately assigned to the publication. There are occasionally two papers assigned to the same number. Some papers were not assigned numbers, these publications have been interfiled chronologically with the numbered material. There are some gaps in the numbering system where the unassigned papers might belong. Starting in 1988 an alternate series of numbers begin to appear, although most of these papers were also included in the original numbering scheme. For the purposes of this finding aid the title of the paper is preceded with its official number in (parentheses), followed by its alternate number in [brackets]. Photocopies of the original box labels have been included, along with related reference material, in the first folder of the subseries.

The Reprints - Others subseries (SB/7/2) is comprised of reprints collected by Sydney Brenner. The majority of the reprints in the subseries were collected while Brenner was employed at the Medical Research Council (MRC), and many appear to have belonged to Francis Crick (who shared an office with Brenner at MRC from the 1950s to the early 1970s). The subseries is arranged alphabetically by author. Brenner and Crick often underlined the author under which the reprint was meant to be filed; as a result some reprints are not filed under the first author of the paper. The reprints date from 1934-2001. The series spans 51 manuscript boxes. The voluminous collection illustrates the importance of reprint libraries in 20th century scientific laboratories.

The Reprints - Subjects subseries (SB/7/3) is composed of two parts. The first consists of groups of reprints that were found labeled by subject (such as "C. elegans" or "Phage Cloning"). These are organized alphabetically by subject, and include a large amount of reprints on nematodes. The second part consists of 22 boxes of unorganized reprints. This group includes a large amount of photocopies, but also a number of reprints and some typescripts. Major subjects include C. elegans, computing, and bacteriophage research. The bulk of this material dates from the 1950s to the 2000s.
