Series XIII: Audiovisual (SB/13), 1980 - 2015
Scope and Contents
This series consists of 15 VHS cassettes (NTSC), 1 compact disk (CD), 8 DVDs, and 1 audio cassette. The video tapes document a 15 hour interview of Brenner which was later released in book form as "My Life in Science." It was released in 1997 by The Science Archives Ltd. A compact disk entitled "Albert Szent-Gyorgyi: Psalmus Humanus" and contains readings of the scientist's poetry. It was released by Consell Valencia de Cultura sometime in the 1990s. Also a fourteen-minute DVD of Sydney Brenner at CSHL speaking about leaving South Africa, his scientific research, meeting Jim Watson and Francis Crick, among other topics, for the 60th Anniversary of the discovery of the double helix "From Base Pair to Body Plan" on March 2, 2013 (2 copies). Dr. Brenner's lecture "The Architecture of Biological Complexity" from the CSHL/Wellcome Trust Joint Conference on Integrative Approachses to Brain Complexity" held in Hinxton, UK (2 copies).
Lastly, 4 DVDs from the October 1-2, 2015 Symposium honoring Sydney Brenner in Singapore: "A Heroic Voyage: Sydney Brenner's Life in Science." Disk 1 contains the Nobel Laureate Public Lecture from October 1, 2015, containing lectures by: James D. Watson, Richard Roberts, and Sydney Brenner. Disk 2 contains the Sydney Brenner Scientific Symposium from October 2, 2015, contains Session One talks by: Lim Chuan Poh (A*Star), James D. Watson, Ludmila Pollock, Sydney Brenner, Sir David Lane, Matthew Meselson, Sidney Altman, Gerald Rubin, Robert Waterston, and Jonathan Hodgkin. Disk 3 contains The Sydney Brenner Scientific Symposium Session Two and Three from October 2, 2015, with talks by: Barry Halliwell, John White, Martin Chalfie, Barbara Meyer, Cynthia Kenyon, Jonathan Karn, Koh Cheng Gee, Byrappa Venkatesh, Ichiro Maruyama, Shawn Hoon, Daniel Rokhsar, Georg Friedrich Melchers, and Benjamin Seet. Disk 4 contains the Dinner Banquet Video from October 2, 2015, with speeches by: Tan Chorh Chuan, President of National University of Singapore, Sydney Brenner, Richard Roberts, Philip Goelet, David Hirsh, and John Abelson. 1 audio cassette tape containing an interview with Sydney Brenner.
