This meeting examined the multitude of ways in which known carcinogens interact with cells, apart from their effects on DNA. The most complex problem is to distinguish between the primary and secondary effects of carcinogens. Clearly, this aspect of research will continue to require further intensive study before definitive answers can be obtained.
